Project Overview

Homeopathy is a pseudoscientific system of alternative medicine. In Pune advance homeopathy treatments are practiced by Dr. Shailesh Sancheti. The main purpose of this app is to make easy for his patients to book medical appointments in advance.

01. Project summary

I was given the opportunity to collaborate with a developer and design an Android application for Dr. Sancheti’s clinic services. In order to find a solution, I employed design thinking with all five phases and was able to complete the design prototypes using the Figma tool within a month, as the project had a deadline. Throughout the process, the developer and I worked together to create a seamless design that would benefit both patients and staff members. We conducted unit and usability testing with patients from different age groups by frequently visiting the clinic, which helped us develop a more user-centric design. Although we encountered challenges during acceptance testing, we continuously iterated on the design and development.

02. why this project?

Dr. Sancheti, who is a skilled homeopathic practitioner and a proficient researcher, formulates his own homeopathic remedies for his patients and extends beyond the call of duty to aid them. He is highly regarded by many of his patients who consider him their trusted family doctor. In order to provide his patients with a hassle-free experience, he has developed a clinic application that allows patients to book appointments online and connect with him at their convenience. This application also enables the staff to manage all appointments and cater to the needs of every patient. As the brand designer for Dr. Sancheti, Cyferscript took the initiative to design and construct this application, with a team of two individuals. While Rushikesh Narwade served as the developer, I was solely responsible for the UX and UI of the application. Together, we played diverse roles and endeavored to make this project a success.

03. User research

We conducted two types of research to gather and analyse data: industry research and in-person interviews with real clients conducted at doctors’ clinics.

Insights obtained from industry and competitive research –

  • Homeopathy research was conducted through website analysis and an interview with Dr. Sancheti himself.
  • A significant number of individuals trust homeopathy and prefer natural remedies for treating illnesses, indicating the level of trust in homeopathic practices.
  • Several online apps provide homeopathic treatments, with Dr. Bhatra’s app being one of the most popular.
  • Dr. Bhatra’s app offers comprehensive and targeted services solely for their registered patients, which limits the accessibility of their services to others and could potentially affect the number of incoming patients.
  • The app interface is straightforward and requires several authentication steps, including the input of patients’ ID for login.

Conducting in-person interviews with both patients and staff has yielded the following insights:

  • A diverse age group visits the doctor’s clinic.
  • The majority of patients are seeking treatment for critical illnesses such as cervical spondylosis, psoriasis, vitiligo, and hypothyroidism.
  • Many patients are required to take multiple medications during different phases of their treatment, making it difficult for them to remember.
  • Patients have a strong trust in their doctors and follow their prescriptions unquestioningly, often seeking clarification through multiple interactions. Some patients even travel long distances for weekly and monthly checkups.
  • Due to high demand, appointments must be pre-booked to avoid long wait times.
  • The clinic staff maintains a hectic schedule managing all appointments, referring to the doctor’s availability, and providing assistance to patients with their doubts.

04. Empathy and mapping and user personas

After collecting the data, I utilized the design thinking process to create personas and empathy maps, which helped me to better define the user’s problems with greater precision.

05. Defined Problems

After analyzing all the data and identifying the major issues to address, we decided to verify our findings with a doctor. Subsequently, we were able to accurately define the problems and develop solutions that specifically addressed them.

Patients should able to book appointments

Staff should be able to manage all appointments

Other people should able to view doctor’s services

Each patient should have their separate profile for easy identification

Patients to have the opportunity to communicate with their doctor and transmit documents.

Important to uphold transparency when it comes to sharing information about appointment status.

06. booking flow

The user flow for booking appointments was designed and then approved by both the doctor and the team.

07. key features of an application

08. low fidelity wireframes

The doctor and their team were presented with low-fidelity wireframes for both the staff and patient applications, which were subsequently revised and finalized after design modifications.

09. high fidelity wireframes

Wireframes of high fidelity were produced to demonstrate the user interface in real-time. The choice of colors for the application’s interface was determined based on the preferences of the doctor and his team.

11. iterations

By failing to thoroughly document the process, I gained a valuable lesson in the UX journey. It became clear that documenting iterations is crucial for comprehending the decision-making process behind any changes made for improvement. This was my initial project, and I overlooked some fundamental UX concepts such as information architecture, user journey mapping, and documentation. As the saying goes, a designer’s journey is never flawless, and we continue to learn throughout our lives.

12. Conclusion

In conclusion, Dr. Sancheti’s commitment to his patients and his innovative approach to providing them with a hassle-free experience has resulted in the development of a clinic application that enables patients to book appointments online and connect with him at their convenience. The development of this application was made possible by the efforts of Cyferscript, with Rushikesh Narwade serving as the developer and myself as the designer for the UX and UI of the application. Although the application is yet to be deployed, the client was pleased with the design and development. The collaboration between Dr. Sancheti and Cyferscript demonstrates the value of teamwork in achieving a common goal, and we hope that this application will continue to aid patients in accessing high-quality healthcare services.
